Sharp Aquos claims 36 percent of world LCD TV market

Sharp Aquos Sharp Corp. said Thursday, January 13, 2005 that production of its Aquos series LCD flat-panel televisions had reached five million units in exactly four years since their debut in 2001.

This figure accounted for 35.7 per cent of an estimated 14 million flat-panel LCD models manufactured worldwide during the period.

Sharp launched the Aquos series in January 2001 in Japan with 13-, 15- and 20-inch models, and has since expanded the lineup to nine models ranging from 13 to 45 inches. The company started marketing the LCD TVs in Europe and other parts of the world in May 2001.
